Chroma Hills Resource Pack 1.19 / 1.18

Many resource packs use real images as textures to add a degree of realism. While these types of resource packs have their audience, many players enjoy texture packs that are designed to be cartoony and use textures that are more flashy. The Chroma Hills Resource Pack is one such example of a successful reimagining of vanilla Minecraft. Using cartoon textures and RPG elements, the resource pack brings a medieval theme that stands out compared to similar projects. Combined with the RPG elements, the resource pack has managed to become one of the most popular packs ever released and one of the longest running packs, receiving updates for many years. The Chroma Hills texture pack was released in 2012, making it over a decade old. Unlike similar other projects that have been abandoned, Chroma Hills still receives updates and still sees a large number of downloads daily. Part of this success is attributed to the expertise of the developer known as SycloneSJS, also known as Simon. Simon had previous experience working in the games industry. Using these experiences, he managed to create Chroma Hills, inspired by his vision of how Minecraft's visuals should look. The overall medieval theme is easy to notice. Many textures have been changed and tweaked to some extent. Over 1000 textures have been given a special treatment by the developer. However, it's not just the textures alone that make the Chroma Hills source pack so visually stunning. The developer also increased the texture resolution. Compared to Minecraft's standard 16x resolution, even the lower-end version that uses 64x textures has amazing detail that reduces pixilation and is more detailed and refined. Compared to vanilla Minecraft, Chroma Hills changes a lot of textures to better fit the medieval setting. We can see new textures for stone blocks, pavements, ores, flowers, crops, wood, doors, brick walls, fences, sand, dirt, lava, trees and more. Some of them have been given a darker tone, making them much more suitable if you plan to build a castle, tower or dungeon.

There are also new player textures inspired by clothing typical of the Middle Ages. Some mobs and creeps also received a visual makeover to make them more appropriate for the theme. To complement these improvements, the developer went a little further and replaced the textures of weapons and armor. They were associated with the respective inventory and menu icons. Finally, the player inventory and HUD have been updated. The higher resolution textures are also reflected in how items look in the inventory. The new brown inventory and subtle nuances like the wooden boards placed under the inventory items show the resource pack author's attention to detail. The crafting menu has also been improved with new textures. All of these changes also serve a functional purpose, as inventory is much easier to navigate and organize. It is important to note that the resource pack is available for free to all players in both versions. However, the developer uses a Patreon page to accept donations that will continue to fund further development and updates to the Chroma Hills resource pack. It's also on his Patreon where he posts news and updates, with his subscribers being the first to know when he's working on something new for his project. The Chroma Hills resource pack does not touch the sky or water textures. They definitely don't look that great compared to how great the game looks with the new textures. This problem can be solved by installing the shader pack. Even though the developer didn't recommend any shader pack, Chroma Hills should work with most of them without encountering game-breaking visual glitches and artifacts. In terms of performance, Chroma Hills works well even if you're running Minecraft on older hardware. As the Chroma Hills source pack changes and adds many new textures, it requires specific Optifine features and if you want to see these new textures, make sure you have optifine installed.

Chroma Hills should be compatible with all of these Minecraft versions: 1.19.4 1.19.3 1.19.2 1.19.1 1.19 1.18.2 1.18.1 1.18 1.17.1 1.17 1.16.5 1.16.4 1.16.3 1.16.2 1.16.1 1.16 1.15.2 1.15.1 1.15 1.14.4 1.14.3 1.14.2 1.14 1.13.2 1.13.1 1.13 1.12.2 1.12 1.11.2 1.11 1.10.2 1.10 1.9.4 1.9 1.8.9 1.8.8 1.8.1 1.8.6 1.8 1.7.10 1.7.9 1.7.4 1.7 1.6.4 1.6.2 Bedrock edition PE
