Many players still enjoy vanilla Minecraft for various reasons. Some people like it because it works well even on old systems. Modern resource packs will push texture resolution to such an extent that you need a really powerful computer to run the game smoothly. FeatherSong Resource Pack is different from this point of view. While this is a texture pack that aims to change the visuals in vanilla Minecraft, it does so without increasing the texture resolution. Released in early 2012, this 10-year-old resource pack has managed to garner hundreds of thousands of downloads. The fact that it is almost completely complete adds to its popularity, as there are no missing textures and few, if any, bugs. By using the same default 16x resolution, the FeatherSong source pack stays true to the classic Minecraft spirit. What it does differently is change the shading, contrast, and color palette of the textures, as well as introducing new textures.
Many of the original textures have been replaced. There are new textures for mobs and creatures, crops, water, trees, leaves and more. All these changes make up for a visual upgrade that gives the game a rustic medieval feel. The increased contrast on some textures adds a certain layer of darkness and grit. While the FeatherSong source pack doesn’t add more detail to the textures, it does have a significant impact on the look and feel of Minecraft. It is important to note that all new textures and improved ones are completely original and created by the author of the resource pack. Running Minecraft with the FeatherSong source pack should have no effect on game performance. It does not add special lighting effects or increase texture resolution. This means that even players with older systems that can play Minecraft will be able to enjoy FeatherSong without any problems. The FeatherSong resource pack can be installed manually or using Optifine.

How to install FeatherSong Resource Pack:
- Most source packages require Optifine, so be sure to download and install it. – a general recommended step for all packages, Optifine is also needed for most shaders
- Download the FeatherSong texture pack for Minecraft from the download section below. – if there are many different versions, just choose the one you like, is compatible with your version/edition of minecraft that you think your computer can handle in terms of performance.
- Launch the game client via the Minecraft launcher.
- Click “Options” in the main menu.
- Click on “Resource Packs…” from the options menu.
- Click “Open Resource Pack Folder”. – a folder named “resourcepacks” will appear.
- Move the .zip file you downloaded in the first step into the newly opened “resourcepacks” folder.
- Click “Done”.
- Click on “Resource Pack…” again.
- Your package should appear in the left window, just hover over it and click on the arrow pointing to the right.
QUICK TIP: Sometimes when activating a pack, the game may say that the pack is made for a newer or older version of Minecraft. This is just a warning, it doesn’t affect your game in any way and you can still activate and enjoy the pack by just clicking “Yes” when prompted.
- Click “Done” again.
- The package has now been successfully loaded and is ready to use in your world!
