Zorocks Pure-Edge Resource Pack 1.16 / 1.15

The Zorocks Pure Edge Resource Pack you wouldn't even think of it when you think of extraordinary, innovative textures. But that's okay, because his goal is not to turn Minecraft into a new game with a flashy look and unrecognizable models. Instead, it focuses on improving the existing look, removing unnecessary clutter, and polishing the game's overall presentation. The developer has been working on it since 2012, so you can be sure that there are no inconsistent or misplaced textures. One of the key features of the Zorocks Pure-Edge texture pack is its cohesive visual approach. Its name may give away the main style it implements, which is a clear, delineated boundary between different blocks. The emphasis is on minimalism and simplicity with straightforward textures that don't try to be overly innovative. The color palette of the vanilla game is preserved, and all blocks use only a fraction of their original colors to make them look more uniform. An interesting feature is all the fluids – lava and water – also have boxy textures and a clear boundary between their source blocks. As for the items, they have an improved look that fits the environment really well. Of course they don't follow the blocky style, but the textures themselves are more consistent and smoother. Swords and tools are more pixelated and somewhat represent the look you'd find in a bona fide resource pack. The hand textures for the blocks are almost identical to how they look when placed down. Probably the most amazing change involves the leaves. Each leaf block has a unique layout that consists of many miniature green cubes that together form a single leaf. The visuals are almost identical regardless of whether you play on fast or fancy graphics settings. Other types of foliage, such as grass and grass blocks, have a similar color palette that ties them together. Also, the grass blocks have different heights depending on how much the grass has grown, which is a very nice detail that adds to the overall atmosphere of the game.

When you visit the Nether, you will be most surprised by how the glowstone looks. It has a soft, yellowish tint and is somewhat transparent with light spots. Mobs haven't changed much except for some details. For example, the patterns on the cow have been tweaked to be a bit more blocky, but the overall look is the same. Creepers and other baddies have received a sleeker outfit that leans a bit towards a cartoonish look. Still, everything is pretty close to the original so it doesn't ruin the main theme. A very welcome improvement is in glass and glass panes. Instead of vanilla semi-transparent textures that have a few lines in them, Zorocks Pure Edge implements a fully transparent glass block. As for the GUI, the only change is in the player's hotbar and menu. The sections that separate the different blocks in your active panel have been adjusted to look more spacious. The dividers between items are now just two small lines at the top and bottom of the GUI instead of taking up the entire length. Inside the inventory, there are dividers in the form of a plus sign, which is an interesting touch. The main selling point of the Zorocks Pure Edge resource set is its very high performance. All textures in the pack are 32×32, which is just twice the size of vanilla Minecraft textures. While this may seem too small – especially compared to some beefy packs that go up to 256×256 – it's more than enough for this resource pack's needs. With a refined look and removal of all unnecessary elements, it could even improve your overall FPS. Since the pack was updated for Minecraft 1.16, connecting textures for glass have been introduced. However, in order to use them, you will need to install Optifine to get CTM support. That's just an added bonus as the Optifine alone will probably squeeze out a few extra frames. All in all, if you're a fan of simple, minimalist resource packs, Zorocks Pure Edge is one you shouldn't miss.
