Minecrafters tend to be obsessed with photorealistic resource packs. Most resource pack producers increase texture resolution to modernize and add details. Minecraft should be enjoyable, not realistic. If you want fun, try Derpswen Resource Pack. Don’t believe a developer’s cartoony, medieval, or realistic resource bundle description. The resource bundle is unrealistic. It puts everything else in perspective and improves Minecraft’s audio and graphics. Community member DERPWARE created Derpswen texture pack. One of his most popular resource sets is Derpswen. With expertise working on other resource packs, his creation’s unique looks have garnered many downloads. The resource pack was launched in early 2020 and is updated regularly. At the time of this review, the resource pack covers 65% of game assets and adds over 25 sounds. The cartoon game begins first. Minecraft is cartoony, but Derpswen takes it further. A lot of common textures have been changed. The majority of Minecraft flowers have been repainted. New textures for all ores and some glow-in-the-dark ones are also added. These textures are common in biomes and undergrounds. Many Derpswen resource pack textures have been modified for the medieval theme. Some textures aren’t drawn.

New textures are available for rocks, stones, mud, and more. Create medieval castles, dungeons, and more with these textures. Among the many noticeable improvements, mob, player, and NPC textures are noteworthy. New villager flies on carpet. Some player textures shine at night. New mob textures include wolves, foxes, pigs, and more. Besides visual changes, there are 25 extra sounds. Wolves cry in the distance after bird sounds were silenced. Wind noise is muffled while other noises are more noticeable. A cricket sound and zombie and skeleton ambient sounds are new. All of these tweaks make the game more medieval. You may make scary dungeons scarier with new noises. The Derpswen pack has 16x textures. The creator has no intentions to offer higher-resolution textures. The game should run with the source pack, though. However, resource set configuration can degrade performance. Although this speed issue is evident, the resource pack zip file contains a configuration file and a help file that describes how various features function and how to customize the resource pack for best performance. The “libraries” subdirectory contains this file. The source pack does not modify lighting, water, or sky textures. Installing the shader bundle may improve graphics. Remember that this will lower game performance. Experiment with different shader packages because some may create errors or visual artifacts for compatibility reasons.
