Turn back the clock in your Minecraft world with Battered Old Stuff Resource Pack. Relive the retro days with the rustic textures that this pack offers and create incredible buildings that will look completely different from the vanilla game. However, despite the dark old-school theme it implements, your world still remains quite colorful and upbeat. If you've ever played older RPG games, these will be the first connections you make once you load up Minecraft with this pack installed. Most of the blocks resemble a medieval style with raw and rustic surfaces. The color palette is noticeably darker to make everything look more legitimate. The attention to detail is evident everywhere you look – for example, even the doorknobs themselves have been changed to match the overall theme. The developer himself stated that the main purpose of this pack is to provide players with a fairly light, classic and attractive alternative to the rest of the source packs. Many mobs received brand new models. Creepers look more like machines with bright red eyes that will make your Minecraft nights even more terrifying. The zombies have also been redesigned, featuring rotting husks with an off-white color palette. The least exciting change is the slime change, which is only slightly different from the original. They have a bit more detail and also a few different shades of green. Friendly entities such as animals and villagers retain their base textures – except for the Iron Golem. Unfortunately, it looks quite similar to a creeper, so be careful not to hit it by mistake. A resource pack wouldn't be complete without a brand new assortment of in-game images – and this is where the Battered Old Stuff texture pack really shines. Once you see them, it's quite obvious that the pack was inspired by the 50s and 60s. The artwork includes images of some of the most famous actors of the years, such as Marlon Brando and John Wayne. There are posters of popular movies, cartoons, model cars and even soft drinks represented by the worn image of Pepsi-Cola. After installing this pack, you're guaranteed to feel like you've stepped into a time machine – especially if you're a bit older.

The GUI itself is beautiful and follows the rustic overlay. The frames of chests, furnaces, and other in-game items represent battered iron, while the interior has a light brown, wooden appearance. This also applies to the main menu, which shows that the developer really took care to keep everything consistent. Even some mods that have their own GUI items like Thaumcraft have been changed accordingly. The interactive elements have remained the same, so you won't have a problem navigating the menus. If your computer is unable to run some of the more advanced resource sets, you're in for a surprise. Battered Old Stuff comes with a 64×64 resolution, which is not demanding at all. When you look at the level of detail, it's quite surprising what it offers – you can even compare it to some of the 128×128 packs. In terms of prerequisites, it is recommended to install either Optifine or MCPatcher. The pack uses interlocking textures, so if you want everything to look uniform and without harsh transitions, get one of these two. You'll also be able to squeeze out a few more FPS. If you have a more powerful computer, try combining a set of resources with shaders. It's just about emphasizing the retro theme and completing the experience. In addition to the vanilla textures, the Battered Old Stuff pack has the ability to work with certain mods. Separate resource pack files can be found on the official download page, which are dedicated to mod support. The developer mostly works on the textures of the mods he plays with. These include Primal Magick, Quark, BuildCraft and more. Keep in mind that the pack isn't completely finished yet, and according to the creator, it never will be. This is because there are constant updates with support for more mods and more textures that need to be tweaked. Still, Battered Old Stuff is worth a download – especially if you're tired of the usual packs that don't bring any creativity.
