Given that Minecraft is a game that naturally looks cubed and cubic, it may come as a shock that it is quite heavy on CPU and GPU resources for its simple aesthetic. Maybe that's why resource packs like those LB Photorealism resource pack they are so well known to most players. These packs do a lot to improve the look of the game and somewhat legitimize the asset hoarding that Minecraft does while running. As for this particular package, it has been quite a while in the making. Passed down from one game designer to another; it's been quite a while since a complete pack was released. The skin targets for the LB Photo Realism Reload source pack are 128x at a resolution that properly adapts to the needs of Minecraft players.

It's neither so high that a standard player can't take advantage of it, nor so low that no obvious difference can be found in the squares, things, and various surfaces that make up Minecraft. That's about many times more pixels per cover than you'd get with vanilla Minecraft 16x targets, so there really is a critical difference you'll see right away. It's not just square footage that gets an upgrade here. The UI is unique and a lot of things have changed as well, including the blades that look more like blades in this pack than harsh objects to bash yourself to death with. The water and magma patterns are also really decent. However, liveliness is not a big deal for everyone. Anyway, LB Photo Realism is what you'd expect from a photorealistic resource pack, so don't be afraid to explore its wonders!
