The problem with most resource packs these days is that they focus too much on upscaling. Sure, you get improved visuals, but at the cost of gaming performance. Only a handful of them are worth sacrificing frame rates for visuals. An alternative is to return to simpler packs such as Jolicraft Resource Pack which attempt to enhance the textures, lighting and overall atmosphere of Minecraft without going overboard in terms of resolution. The Joliecraft resource pack manages to maintain the overall feel of Minecraft, keeping it cartoonish but with new textures, vibrant colors and a certain charm that's hard to describe. Experienced players should be familiar with Jolicraft. The source pack was originally released in mid-2012, making it over a decade old. Surprisingly, the developer has not yet abandoned the project. The developer, known as Andrethejolicoeur, only has Jolicraft as a Minecraft project and has not released any other resource packs. Managing only one project can be a positive aspect as his attention is mostly focused on Jolicraft alone. This has been reflected in the constant updates released over the years. It also led to millions of downloads on the several sites where it was released. Also, despite more than ten years of development invested in it, the Jolicraft resource pack is available for free to all players. The resource package name and developer alias are good indicators of what to expect. Inspired by the French word jolie, which translates to beautiful, the Jolicraft texture pack has truly beautiful and nice looking visuals. It can improve Minecraft in many ways without increasing the texture resolution or making everything more photorealistic with photos. It remains cartoony, but with more vibrant colors. Once you install Jolicraft, the first thing you'll notice is that the grass and leaves are a more vibrant green, the cornfields are golden, the sand is a light beige, and the water textures use lighter, cheerier chromatics.

Most of the textures in the game have been changed for the better by either replacing them with brand new ones or improving the existing ones. This is not a complete resource pack, which means that some things are still intact, but you will have a hard time finding them. Among the many visual improvements, you can also notice new textures for brick walls, wood, crops, ores, different types of terrain, different building materials and more. All these changes are accompanied by new textures for mobs and creeps and some new player textures. You'll see new textures for wolves, dogs, sheep, pigs, and chickens, but also for mobs like zombies, skeletons, spiders, and more. Finally, the Jolicraft pack is putting a lot of effort into overhauling the inventory menus, player HUD, and workbench. The inventory menu now looks like a sheet of paper with simple spacing of items and sections. A similar adjustment was applied to the crafting menu. The HUD of the player has also changed. You'll get a new health bar, item slots, and more. All of these visual improvements, and there are many, are achieved without increasing the texture resolution beyond 16x. The resource pack also doesn't touch lighting or shadows and still manages to achieve stunning visuals. However, it will change some of the sky textures. The sun and moon now have a much more cartoony look. If you're worried about game performance, the Jolicraft resource pack shouldn't be a major problem. With 16x texture resolution, the resource pack isn't particularly demanding when it comes to gaming performance. If you want a resource pack that is lightweight and runs well, Jolicraft might just be it. Despite being an RPG focused resource pack, it can also be a good choice for PvP players. If you want to take its visuals to the next level, you should consider installing a shader pack. However, it would be recommended to use one that doesn't change the texture of the sky or water, as they take away from the beauty of Jolicraft and its cartoon sun and moon.
