Minecraft resource packs usually focus on improving texture resolution and changing certain things to be specific to a medieval or fantasy type of game. This is usually a result of Minecraft being much more suited to an RPG style of play. However, every once in a while we get a resource pack that is completely different from what we are used to. Hokomoko's Modern resource pack comes up with another proposal. Instead of presenting medieval or fantasy themes and textures and objects, it focuses on modern elements that we are used to seeing in our daily lives. That doesn't mean it's a realistic resource pack. Instead, it's a different type of resource pack that can be just as fun as any other resource pack. It is not clear exactly when development of Hokomoko's Modern resource pack began, but the resource pack was released and first playable in February 2013. There is not much information about the original developer, and he has had several accounts with variations of his moniker used to publish his projects. He is known as DaHokomoko or Hokomoko2332. There have been several iterations of his Modern Texture pack, but the original has received the most downloads. He has released several other source packs, but as for the modern Hokomoko source pack, there haven't been any new updates for quite some time. However, according to the developer, its resource pack is 100% complete, indicating that it does not intend to publish any major updates. Hokomoko's modern texture pack doesn't focus on introducing amazing levels of detail to textures. Instead, it uses 32x texture resolution. The developer's efforts have been invested in keeping the game as blocky as everyone knows it from vanilla, but with a modern twist. At its core, the modern Hokomoko resource pack is very simple or basic. Takes existing textures and replaces them with something else.

It also introduces several new blocks and items. Among the most notable things you'll see if you install Hokomoko's Modern resource pack are things like electronics (TVs, speakers, lamps, etc.), kitchen appliances, vending machines, modern furniture, modern flooring, carpets, sofas, bookcases, beds, new and modern doors, windows and more. All these innovations make it possible to build modern houses or places inspired by reality. What the resource pack doesn't touch is everything else. We don't get new sky and water textures, the clouds are the same, and the Sun and Moon are as boxy as ever. Also the in-game mobs, flowers and crops are the same. Trees, foliage and most terrain types also remain unchanged. The vast majority of changes focus on things you can use to build and furnish a modern home, reflecting the name of the resource pack. The game menu and player HUD were also neglected. If they were tweaked a bit to look more modern and fit the theme of the resource pack, it would certainly be appreciated a bit more. However, with everything missing that players would expect to get in a resource pack, the modern Hokomoko resource pack is still a breath of fresh air. The source pack was also released over a decade ago. In 2013, resource packs were much simpler. Hokomoko's Modern resource pack can be installed with or without Optifine. It doesn't use any special features, so you can use the classic method to manually move the resource pack zip file and load it into the game. In terms of performance, a modern Hokomoko resource pack should make no difference. Since it uses 32x textures, it doesn't affect game performance that much. This makes the resource pack PVP friendly. However, since it hasn't been updated in a while, the resource pack may not work with the latest versions of Minecraft.
