If you've ever felt like regular Minecraft textures lack attention to detail, Hafen Resource Pack starting from the bottom up to ensure maximum use of all 16 pixels per block. The usual tones can be a little boring, especially if you've been playing the game since its earlier releases. Fortunately, Hafen has taken a slightly different approach that may refresh your experience. The name of the pack itself is a play on the word haven, which you probably associate with a bright and safe place – and that's exactly what your Minecraft world will become after installation. The cheerful color palette and softer textures are Hafen's trademarks, bringing a whole new atmosphere that affects almost every aspect of the game itself. The GUI has also been tweaked alongside blocks, entities and even lighting. Bored of dark green grass? If so, you're in luck – the most numerous block in the game is easier on the eyes thanks to a softer shade and perfectly matches the newly textured sky. Trees that you had a hard time distinguishing between – mainly dark oak and spruce – have now been drastically modified to make them easier to spot. This will also breathe new life into your builds and maybe give you some new ideas. A similar pattern can be seen underground, as andesite, granite and diorite all have distinctly different colors and textures. The ores have retained their original appearance, albeit with slightly different hues. Another big change that will attract mixed reactions is the mob retexture. Their cartoonish appearance takes away from the scare factor, but it's quite refreshing to see a blue one-eyed Ghast instead of the usual white and gray tentacle. Even friendly entities like cows, bees, and villagers have been redesigned to look more realistic and fresh. Not surprisingly, foods follow these adjustments.

Steaks, apples, fish, chicken and more get a whole new look in your hotbar. The Hafen texture pack has one feature that sets it apart from the rest – a special lightmap that matches the overall theme. This unique feature provides higher quality shadows without sacrificing performance. You don't even need to install a separate shadow pack to enjoy them. The effect is also noticeable during the night, especially if the lighting is a little dimmer. However, since the light map is very specific and has a strong orange tint, the developer gives the option to disable it or install an orange light reduction add-on. As for the GUI, it is overcome by a combination of blue shades, darker and lighter. The armor slots have white outlines inside, but other than that not much has changed. The pack includes a custom font that follows the cartoon theme, which can also be disabled according to personal preference. What you get with the Hafen standalone source is just the beginning. The developer has included optional add-ons that either fix some potential problems or change certain aspects of the package. These include UI/chest fixes that address issues in older versions of the game since there aren't separate releases for each Minecraft update. There are three classic plugins: items, UI, and colors. They bring back some changes from version 2.0 of the pack for players who preferred the previous textures. All this attention to detail shows that the developers really care about the quality of this pack and the community itself. The basic and only edition of the pack offers a 16×16 resolution, the same as the vanilla game uses. This is a lifesaver for gamers who have outdated PCs as they won't have to worry about FPS drops. No installations are required for the package to function properly. However, adding Optifine could squeeze out an extra frame or two, which can be invaluable. Although the Hafen resource pack was primarily created for the Java version of Minecraft, there is a Bedrock edition called “Squishy Pixels”. The whole project is about 90% done, which makes it pretty polished and unlikely to run into any problems. The amount of effort that has obviously gone into this pack is really worth checking out.
