Not all resource packs set out to make Minecraft something it's not. The Defscape Source Pack does not try to bring photorealistic graphics. What it tries to do is add more detail to existing textures. Defscape was released 11 years ago. It has aged well, but unfortunately there have been no further updates for the resource pack in 10 years. The original developer left the project, but Defscape survived and is still being downloaded today. Its survival can be attributed to the fact that the source pack does not add textures, ultra-high definition animations and does not require shaders. It also works well on older systems depending on which version you are playing on. The Defscape source pack was originally released in 3 different resolutions. It can be found in 16x, which is Minecraft's normal vanilla resolution, 32x, or 64x. While 16x and 32x don't have a major impact on game performance, 64x requires a more powerful system to run smoothly.

Going back to the purpose of the resource pack, Defscape simply makes the visuals in Minecraft much sharper. The textures haven't been completely replaced and everything looks the same but better. The 64x version reduces pixelation on blocks and small objects like grass, leaves and flowers look smoother and less angular. Most of the environments have remained unchanged, but each texture has more detail. Some things have changed at Defscape. The resource pack introduces new models and textures for several mobs, making them look different than in vanilla. It also adds several new textures for armor sets and weapons. From the looks of it, the resource pack is mostly aimed at PvP players as it doesn't compromise game performance and adds new textures for PvP. Defscape is recommended to be installed with Optifine, which helps stop animations from appearing on the wrong blocks and helps render fonts correctly. They are also needed for the correct rendering of water and grass textures.

Defscape should be compatible with all of these Minecraft versions: 1.7.10 – 1.7.9 – 1.7.4 – 1.7 – 1.6.4 – 1.6.2

How to install Defscape Resource Pack:

Most source packages require Optifine, so be sure to download and install it. – a general recommended step for all packages, Optifine is also needed for most shaders
Download the Defscape texture pack for Minecraft from the download section below. – if there are many different versions, just choose the one you like, is compatible with your version/edition of minecraft that you think your computer can handle in terms of performance.
Launch the game client via the Minecraft launcher.
Click “Options” in the main menu.
Click on “Resource Packs…” from the options menu.
Click “Open Resource Pack Folder”. – a folder named “resourcepacks” will appear.
Move the .zip file you downloaded in the first step into the newly opened “resourcepacks” folder.
Click “Done”.
Click on “Resource Pack…” again.
Your package should appear in the left window, just hover over it and click on the arrow pointing to the right.
QUICK TIP: Sometimes when activating a pack, the game may say that the pack is made for a newer or older version of Minecraft. This is just a warning, it doesn't affect your game in any way and you can still activate and enjoy the pack by just clicking “Yes” when prompted.
Click “Done” again.
The package has now been successfully loaded and is ready to use in your world!
