BoxCraft Resource Pack 1.9.4 / 1.8.9

Simplicity and high performance are middle names BoxCraft Resource Pack. You might guess from the name that it doesn't change too many details of the vanilla game, as the textures retain their blocky, pixelated look. Unlike many resource packs that completely change the look and feel of Minecraft – while requiring ridiculously powerful hardware to run properly – this one tries to squeeze every last FPS out of your PC. While it may not bring anything special to the game, BoxCraft is one of the most unique packs you can find out there. Developer MillCzarr focused on removing unnecessary details from the original textures. It may seem strange because they are already quite pixelated and low in detail. However, BoxCraft actually enhances the look with interlocking textures. The color palette is also reduced to an absolute minimum, so that everything can appear quite uniform. For example, a grass block combines individual shades of brown and green, paving blocks use a variation of gray, and wood implements different shades of brown depending on the type of tree. In addition to looking quite attractive, this will also help you spot certain types of blocks from further away. A completely unique approach is used for tree leaves. While in the original game they vary according to the fast or fancy graphics settings, BoxCraft keeps them the same regardless. They are semi-transparent, with a green frame and a net-like center. Thanks to this, it blends perfectly with the rest of the environment, especially with grass, flowers and stone. Items like chests, furnaces, and more are also polished to give them a more uniform look. The glass is also completely transparent with no small spots. Once you load the world, you'll also notice that the fluids have been adjusted. While they can't be pigeonholed as such, the lava and water are much cleaner and more uniform than before. The ores are also reworked and in a form where you can easily distinguish them. They have a stone base with four squares on each side colored like the corresponding ore.

This makes mining much more enjoyable and completely changes the atmosphere when you're looking for them. Also, once you create the ore block you will notice that it has a different shine as it has also been changed to better match the theme of the box. You might think that removing certain details makes the game bland and unappealing. However, BoxCraft does it better than almost any other similar resource pack. The game becomes clearer, smoother and even creates a nicer build compared to the original. It's hard to compare it to any other approach because MillCzarr is probably the first to create this type of resource pack. The blocky look isn't just limited to blocks, though. The particles are also almost completely changed. Explosions, rain, fire and more appear in cube form to match the deck's theme. The deck dates back to 2011, which means it's had plenty of time to polish. Its original developer stopped updating BoxCraft, but AahzChi continued it in the same way as before. It's kept the grid-like look of the newer versions and added a lot of detail that's barely noticeable if you're roaming around the world. You could say it adds a whole new goal to the game – trying to find as many hidden upgrades and changes as possible. All things considered, the BoxCraft texture pack does not require either Optifine or MCPatcher to function properly. Only one resolution is offered for BoxCraft – 16×16. This is the same as the original vanilla textures, but that is to be expected as the pack focuses on performance and simplicity. It will run on virtually any computer regardless of its specs, and you can expect a significant increase in FPS after loading the pack. If you want to increase the performance even more, you can use Optifine alongside it. Still, it's worth giving BoxCraft a shot – even if you're not looking for added FPS.

BoxCraft should be compatible with all of these Minecraft versions: 1.9.4 1.9 1.8.9 1.8.8 1.8.1 1.8.6 1.8 1.7.10 1.7.9 1.7.4 1.7 1.6.4 1.6.2
